The online set-up for classes is still foreign to most people, especially the students and the teachers/professors. Since the day I started schooling, I was accustomed to the physical classes, making the online set-up quite hard for me to adjust to despite getting by with the first 2 months of the semester. What makes it hard for students is first, the feeling of having the boundary between school and home is sometimes not present. Unlike before wherein we would normally forward to the feeling of going home and relaxing after a stressful day, this time around, the stress and relaxation are made to be done in one area — home. For me, the homey feeling of my bedroom isn’t that evident anymore. However, the good thing about it is that students can work in the comfort of their own homes. Second, time management is a crucial skill that students and adults struggle with. Since there are more asynchronous classes, it is important for students to manage their time wisely in order to be able to study the lessons. If not, being left behind is a big possibility. Lastly, the workload. Although the workload is pretty decent, sometimes it can be a bit handful as the courses are compressed and need to be taken at a faster pace. As for the learnings regarding students’ rights and responsibilities, I’ve learned that we need to be more responsible for our actions since college is a taste of adulthood. Certain actions of misconduct have their own consequences. One common example is cheating. Even in physical classes, many students are guilty of cheating, how much more in online classes where all data are accessible at all times? For me, it is important to keep in mind the value of honesty and discipline. Even when no one is watching, it is always important to do the right thing. This mean that in online classes where students are not visible to the professors, we still need to do the right thing.
